Installation
High-quality installation of windows, be it wooden windows, PVC windows or ALU windows, is of key importance. Regardless of whether you are replacing your old windows or installing windows in a new building, you must guarantee a well-sealed joint between builders’ joinery and the wall in order to guarantee and maintain thermal and acoustic insulation of windows.

RAL installation in energy renovation projects
Trust the process of window installation to experienced MIK experts who will perform their work in a high-quality manner in accordance with all technical requirements, thus enabling the long-term use of your windows and a 10-year system guarantee.
- MIK installers will make sure that the builders’ joinery you have ordered is supplied to you in due time.
- The installation team manager will inform you of the course of installation and its details.
- The installation team will protect the floors and immediately exposed areas in the vicinity of which the windows will be dismantled/installed.
- The assembly procedure itself begins by leveling the windows into the wall openings, which consists of defining the correct height, depth and angle for the window installation using a laser meter and a spirit level.
- The next step consists of screwing the frames into the wall openings and sealing them with the selected sealant. The process of execution for this phase depends on whether you have opted for classic installation, MIK ECO installation, MIK RAL installation, RAL installation or RAL installation using three-level sealing tape.
- At the end of the installation process, the installation team manager will take you through the process that has been performed, and check all built-in elements with you. They will explain how to correctly use the built-in elements and inform you of the basic maintenance rules.
- MIK installers will also give you the Instructions for use and maintenance of MIK windows . In case of any questions, you can always contact them. They will be happy to help you.
We recommend that you are at home when the installation team arrives and concludes the working process so that our experts will be able to explain to you the individual installation processes on site, while the installation team manager helps you examine the work performed and execute the handover of the installation.
High-quality installation of windows, be it PVC windows, wooden windows, wood/ALU windows or ALU windows and doors, is of key importance. Whether you opted for a renovation or are embarking on a new building project, the joints between your windows and doors and the walls they are installed into must be sealed well in order for your new windows and doors to guarantee and maintain the thermal and acoustic insulation that have convinced you in the first place that MIK windows and doors are the correct choice for you.
MIK offers you 5 types of installation: MIK classic installation, MIK ECO and MIK RAL, RAL installation and RAL installation using three-level pre-compressed sealing tape, which have received no less than 2 certificates of construction excellence by the ZRMK Construction Institute. All types of installation that you can choose from in the MIK offer comply with the applicable regulations on thermal protection of buildings.
Key features of a high-quality installation
SEALED INSTALLATION JOINT
The joint between the wall and the window must be correctly sealed and must not have any visible holes or damaged spots in the window frame which allows us to guarantee thermal and acoustic insulation of windows.
FLAWLESS OPENING AND CLOSING
The casement must be inserted in a manner which prevents the casement and the frame from sustaining mechanical deterioration, as well as preventing them from getting stuck; furthermore, the casement must not be slanted and must open and close without any issues.
FUNCTIONAL WINDOW HANDLES
Window handles must be firmly affixed.

Classic window installation
Classic installation of windows and other builders’ joinery is the most common installation method in Slovenia.
The frames are attached to the wall using screws, while the joint between the window or other builders’ joinery elements and the wall is filled with polyurethane foam (also called PU foam).
MIK ECO installation
Improve your living quality and choose MIK ECO installation of your new windows and doors. This method uses durable elastic soft-cell water-based foam in order to seal the joint between the wall and the builders’ joinery element in question.
The foam boasts excellent expansion and contraction qualities, which enable it to adapt to temperature changes and therefore provides a higher degree of insulation.
ECO installation is therefore not only an environmentally friendly but also an energy-efficient method of builders’ joinery installation.
This is an excellent choice for transforming older houses into more energy-saving constructions, as well as for new buildings which strive to provide an economical, healthy and environmentally friendly living environment for you.
MIK RAL installation
MIK RAL installation is an energy-efficient installation method which guarantees the reduction of thermal energy losses while simultaneously preventing water from entering the wall, which forms condensation and harms insulating abilities of the window and other builders’ joinery elements.
On the inside of the joint between the wall and the window, the sealant is a vapor-impermeable paste, while durable elastic soft-cell foam fills the space between the frame and the wall. With MIK RAL installation, the joints are therefore vapor-impermeable from the inside and waterproof from the outside, which enables vapor to pass from the room into the environment, but not vice-versa.
Both specific materials used for MIK RAL installation are made of environmentally friendly materials and are only used at MIK. We recommend MIK RAL installation for new buildings, while it is a mandatory feature in building passive and low-energy houses.
RAL installation
RAL installation is characterized by exceptional energy-efficient capacities which are guaranteed through three-level tape sealing.
The inner side of the joint between the window and the wall is sealed using a tape with a vapor-impermeable membrane, completely preventing water vapor from passing from the room into the joint. The outer side of the joint between the window and the wall is sealed using a tape with a vapor-permeable membrane, enabling vapor to pass from the joint and guaranteeing efficient insulation and protection against weathering effects such as strong winds and rain showers.
The space between the window frame and the wall which houses the window is filled by soft cell foam. By sealing the joints with the RAL installation system using tapes, we prevent moisture from being deposited in the joint itself, causing damage such as mold.
RAL installation using a three-level sealing tape
RAL installation using three-level pre-compressed sealing tape is an energy- and time-efficient solution which allows us to use only one tape for all three levels, thus drastically reducing the time used to install the window.
The tape is a permanently elastic, non-corrosive tape that eliminates the need to additionally process window reveals using masonry procedures after installing the windows, which is an additional feature in the process of RAL installation using tapes. On the inside, the tape has an airtight layer, the medium layer is sound- and heatproof, while the outside layer is rainproof. At the same time, the tape is also vapor-permeable, allowing vapor to pass from the joint.
This installation method is suitable for both new buildings and renovated buildings if the window reveal has been suitably processed in advance. The installation method can be executed in all weather conditions.
